Ian's Mural
freelance project. 2022
2 day project. Client requested a design that would be friendly and exciting to look at. I wanted to create something that would have a silly feeling to it and reflect the fun loving, diverse Ian's community. Materials used were wall paint and POSCA markers.
PROCESS
The initial idea for this mural was born from doodles that I draw in my spare time. The challenge of making faces out of various blob forms has always been a fun exercise for me and I thought it would translate well to a mural because of the organic composition and ability to depict diverse features. The color palette had already been established by other assets on the walls so I stuck with it for this part of the mural because I wanted the entire space to feel cohesive.
STEP 1 - SKETCH
I used procreate to sketch up a composition for the wall and sent it to the client for approval. To transfer my design to the physical wall I used chalk that was easily wipeable and applied the base coats for the blobs first. The faces were drawn on with POSCA marker so that I could have better line control and cleaner lines.
