Seattle Children's Mock Client Work

student assignment, 2020

This assignment was given to us by our teacher who got in contact with Children's. We worked with staff from the marketing team at the hospital for 5 weeks. The brief was very open and the goal was to increase donations and awareness. I chose to create a series of 4 posters that could be posted in bus stops around the city. The series revolved around Children's Ambassador kids; children who have allowed their story and image to be shared with the public.

Process - idea to paper

I started my process by choosing the 4 stories I wanted to focus on and the Seattle attractions I wanted to pair them with. It was important for me that the posters give off a positive and PNW pride vibe, so having the kids shown with these attractions like the Space Needle would help show the audience the significance of these stories. I also wanted the kids to be superheroes who represented the hospital. This would give other patients at Children's something to be proud of and would help them associate the hospital with fun images.

I then sketched out a composition for each of the posters. (Shown below)

Process - characters

It was then time to get the characters right. I spent some time making sure the faces were cute but not overly childish. I also wanted the bodies to be more cartoonish because I wanted the link between these characters and cartoon superhero to be visible.
