"An Evening with the Beavers"
Narrative Etching
student assignment, 2019
I was assigned to choose an existing narrative that would be able to be translated in to an etching that would be printed in one color. I chose to base my drawing off of C. S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe because I thought the style of the story and the hand done, old school effect of the etching matched in tone.
Process
Originally I knew I wanted to use the C. S. Lewis story but I wasn't sure what section I wanted to focus on. Below are three sketches of different scenes that I was debating using for my etching. In the end I chose to use the scene with the beavers because I felt that it would come across the best given the medium and it's ability to layers cross hatching and giving depth to the scene.
